OUR STORY

In 1993 a group of church members at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas became burdened over the issue of abortion. Under the leadership of our Pastor, Gary Miller, a Task Force was formed to explore the possibility of opening a crisis pregnancy center in East Fort Worth.

We met, prayed, and did our research. God quickly began to open doors that we still marvel at today.

During our season of meeting and research, a woman visited Sagamore in search of a church home while attending seminary. She was preparing for the mission field. The deacon who greeted her at the door began talking with her. She said she had moved to Fort Worth from Orlando, Florida. He asked her what she had been doing in Florida. Her response: I helped START and run a crisis pregnancy center.

So, Lynn Kennedy from Orlando, on her way to Africa with a 2 year stop in Fort Worth joined the Task Force.

In a few short months, we presented our vision to the church Body of Sagamore, and they embraced it with passion.

Very shortly AFTER that vote, a man who owned a building a block away from the church decided he wanted to sell his building.  Before putting it on the market he called our Pastor, Gary, to see if the church would be interested in purchasing it from him. He had no idea of our plans or the need of a building for this new project. None.

When Gary told the building owner what we were looking to do with a potential space, he disclosed that he was Catholic, had, at one time, studied for the priesthood, and was 100% pro-life.

For us, he cut his asking price in half.

The Task Force was invited to tour the building to see if it would work as a pregnancy center.

The building was practically perfect and needed very little modification to house our pregnancy center.

A man in the church said he would match dollar for dollar every donation given toward the purchase price. And within a couple of weeks the full amount was raised and Sagamore paid cash for the building at 324 S. Rand Street.

Lynn Kennedy agreed to become our first Director and gave us an incredibly solid foundation with all her previous experience and knowledge.

Within months, we were training counselors and dedicating our building.

On January 11, 1994, we opened our doors as Choice Pregnancy Center and have been ministering to women and men in our community ever since.
